My first ever MAC haul: Russian Red lipstick and Cherry lip liner

MAC Russian Red and cherry lip liner

My first ever MAC haul, and what better to buy first than one of their iconic lipsticks?
Last year, I really started getting into wearing a red lip as more of an everyday look, rather than just for going out. My last red lipstick (from Revlon, super old but lovely) had ran out, the replacement really didn't apply as well and just smudged a tonne (I wrote about it in this post on Kate Tokyo).  So, I decided to indulge in my first MAC lipstick! It was between Ruby Woo and Russian Red, but as Ruby Woo is super matte and apparently pretty drying, I decided on Russian Red. And I couldn't be happier!

This was actually a birthday present , so it's been a while coming. But, with the Yen to pound exchange rate so bad (cheers Brexit) MAC is cheaper for me in the UK than Japan so I decided to wait until I got home. I picked up a matte lipstick in Russian Red and a lip liner in Cherry and I got to pick a free sample so I chose the prep and prime primer. I've never used a primer before, so I can't wait to try this out!

Although I didn't try out the primer, I did try out the combination of the lip liner and lipstick. I lined and filled in my lips with Cherry, and then put on Russian Red over the top. The first thing I noticed was that the lipstick smells amazing! It's like a nice sweet vanilla-sh scent, but it's not too overpowering, which is good too. It's matte, so it is a little dry, but it's easy to apply straight from the bullet and doesn't dry out and destroy your lips. It lasts pretty average- it survived a few cups of tea, but I had to reapply after eating a meal. It is quite a dark red, but it's a bit lighter than it looks in the bullet. It makes me feel so glam <3

So it's easy to apply even for a super clumsy person like me, it's a lovely colour that I can wear everyday and for posher things too... I love it! (Did you guys see that coming?) I think it suits me pretty well too, what do you guys think?

Lastly, sorry for writing a million beauty posts lately.. I've been so busy and in a little bit of a fashion rut (or more accurately, I want to take a nicer OOTDs which needs more time and a willing photographer). Also, I am missing the heck out of Japan, and writing about it makes me cry slightly because I'm not there any more, haha.

Thanks for reading! I don't own that much high end makeup, so I think I got a little overexcited when these arrived in the post... Hopefully I don't get sucked into collecting makeup though, my wallet will cry. But, at least I'll look pretty, right? haha
